SC issues contempt notice to Calcutta HC judge

Low point (File) Supreme Court of India

Supreme Court Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar on Wednesday issued a contempt notice to Calcutta High Court Judge Justice C.S. Karnan for continuously levelling allegations against his Madras High Court counterpart and other judges.

The apex court has asked Justice Karnan to appear in person before it on February 13 and directed him to refrain from taking judicial and administrative work.

AG Mukul Rohatgi termed public communications of Justice Karnan as "slanderous" and "disparaging" to system of administration of justice. Justice Karnan is at loggerhead with Madras High Court Chief Justice on a number of issues. He had earlier threatened to move the Scheduled Castes Commission alleging harassment by him (Justice Kaul).
