A shocking incident has come to light in which Gujarat police has arrested a sadhvi in a cheating case involving crores of rupees and gold weighing more than two kilograms.

The incident was reported from Palanpur in North Gujarat. According to sources, Banaskantha Police recovered Rs 1.25 crore cash and 2.4 kilogram gold during a raid conducted at the home of Sadhvi Jayshree Giri.

Sources said that the raid was conducted based on a complaint lodged by a local jeweler Pritesh Shah. In his complaint, Shah had claimed that the Sadhvi and two others had taken Rs 5 crore from him and promised to give him gold at a cheaper rate. Apparently, the trio did not keep the promise, forcing Shah to file a complaint.

The Sadhvi has been reportedly evicted from the post she was holding in the akhara to which she belonged.

She has also been charged under the Prohibition Act, as liquor was also recovered from her home. Under the provisions recently amended in the Prohibition Act, an accused can face 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
