Roy’s allegations catches Trinamool Congress off guard

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked her party men to not respond to every allegation made by former aide Mukul Roy, who is now a BJP leader.

Roy, three days back, had lambasted Mamata Banerjee and accused her of holding several rounds of meetings with chit fund king Sudipta Sen of the Saradha empire. “I know about those never ending meetings,” Roy said.

He also said that the logo of Bengal’s business brand, Biswa Bangla, belongs to Mamata’s nephew and MP, Abhishek Banerjee. “It’s not at all a government property. The business, through which the West Bengal government is asking industrialists to invest and is holding summits all over the world, is a private property, the official address of which is Mamata Banerjee’s residence,” Roy had said.

Home secretary Atri Bhattacharya and small scale industries secretary Rajiva Sinha held a press conference and defended the government. But, Roy has gone a step further and written to the PMO against the officers citing their press conference as a violation of service rule for defending a “fraud”. “In fact, these officers are involved in political activities,” Roy wrote.

But Mamata, who is in London to attend functions of Ram Krishna Mission, asked her partymen not to rebut everything Roy said. Trinamool Congress had planned to hold a rally on Monday to rebut allegations made by Roy during a BJP rally in Kolkata on November 10.

“Only a handful of mid-level leaders would attend the meet. We have been asked by our leader to avoid Mukul Roy,” said a senior Trinamool Congress MP.

The performance of Roy at his first rally energised BJP’s central leadership as congratulatory messages started pouring in. BJP leaders in Delhi understood that they have received a leader they had wanted for long, to hit the Trinamool Congress at the core.

“Mukul da had the knowledge about everything in Trinamool and he knows the politics of India. None of us in the state could expose the nitty gritty of governance as he has understood it,” said general secretary of the BJP in Kolkata.

Sources said BJP president Amit Shah called Roy after his the resounding success of his meeting on November 10.

Trinamool Congress is all set to slap Roy with a defamation suit, and BJP is all set to fight the case.

Ultimately, Roy is at an advantage in Bengal after his successful entry into the BJP.
