In what could be described as an inspiring display of bravery and courage, a fan of superstar Rajinikanth has prevented a gang-rape risking his own life.

Vasanth Paul, a Chennai resident, in a Facebook post has detailed about an attempted gang-rape of a girl on Friday near Alandur.

Paul said that when he was on his way back home from a theatre after watching first day, first show of Kabali, he took a detour at Alandur to avoid traffic. When he stopped for a smoke break, he heard moans from the nearby open fields.

At first he thought the moans were that of an animal. But later he realised the it was the sound of a woman in distress.

Paul noticed that three men were trying to rape a woman. He immediately rushed to the help of the woman and engaged two of her tormenters in a fist fight. While one attacker punched him, another tried to strangle him with a jute rope.

However, the commotion drew the attention of an autorickshaw driver who ran to assist Paul in the fight. The unidentified driver beat up and chased away all three attackers.

At the request of the woman, no police case was filed in connection with the incident, he said.

Paul also claimed that he, along with his friends, is searching for the attackers.
