Simmering tempers and tension in Sharanpur and its adjoining areas refuse to die down even after the arrest of founder of Bheem army, Chandrashekher alias Ravan, and some other accused. In order to provoke the masses further, Ravan's mother, Kamlesh, has released a video on social media in which she has appealed to the members of dalit community to reach Jantar Mantar on June 18 and protest the arrest of Chandrashekher and other activists of the Bheem army.

This has whipped up passions among the members of a particular community in the district and adjoining areas.

Jantar Mantar, a prominent spot for holding ‘dharnas’ and protests is situated near Parliament.

The video was released by Kamlesh, despite strict vigil by the district administration and a prolonged ban on internet services in the district.

After the arrest and imprisonment of Chandrashekher, who is the main accused in incidents of violence, his supporters are simmering with anger. And, a particular community has been protesting his arrest.

Nearby Deobandh, also witnessed strong protests by women of a particular community on Tuesday during which they had ‘gheraoed’ the office of Sub Divisional Magistrate.

Meanwhile, the district police have identified 17 more accused in Shabbirpur violence that took place on May 23, after Mayawati’s visit, which claimed the life of a member of the dalit community.

According to Senior Superintendent of police, Saharanpur, Babloo Kumar, those who have been identified for fanning violence will face strict punishment as per law.

It may be recalled that Saharanpur has been simmering for the past one month owing to bitter animosity between dalits and thakurs of the area and during this period, it witnessed four clashes which claimed two lives.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had initiated a high level probe into the incident last month and senior officials probing these incidents had held Bheem army responsible for fanning violence in the district.
