Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He was there to meet RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, with whom a prior appointment had been sought.
The exact details of the meeting and the discussion between Tata and Bhagwat are not immediately known. However it is said that the chairman of Tata Sons expressed his desire to work with the RSS in the field of tribal development.
RSS has been involved in tribal development activities through its sister organisation Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram. Tata is reported to have conveyed his group's keenness to partner with the group.
It may be noted here that Ratan Tata and the Tata group have been facing a crisis of sorts ever since Cyrus Mistry was ousted as Tata group chairman in a boardroom coup.
Speculation were rife whether the meeting between Tata and Bhagwat was in that context and Tata was seeking support of the RSS. The saffron organisation is the ideological parent of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government ruling at the Centre and in a number of key states including Maharashtra.
Cyrus Mistry has been backed by Supriya Sule, an NCP MP and daughter of former union minister Sharad Pawar.
