Rape accused SP leader Gayatri Prajapati granted bail

Fomer SP minister and gang rape accused Gayatri Prajapati, on Tuesday, was granted bail by a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court. He got bail along with two other accused Pintu Singh and Vikas Verma.

The police had arrested Gayatri Prajapati, a high profile minister in Akhilesh government, on March 15. He is said to be very close to SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav and sent him to judicial custory for 14 days.

During his arrest, Gayatri wanted a narco test so that truth could come to light. After a Supreme Court directive on February 2017, a case of rape was registered at Gautam Palli police station in Lucknow. The case was registered against him under POCSO Act. He contested assembly polls (2017) from Amethi assembly constituency, but lost.

Gayatri had been embroiled in controversy when a woman accused him of gang raping her at his residence. She had alleged that when she went to Gayatri’s residence, he laced her tea with some intoxicant. After consuming the tea, she fell unconscious. When she came to senses, she found that the minister and his men had raped her and made a video of the incident.

The victim also accused him of sexually exploiting her minor daughter.

This high profile case made news during UP assembly polls.
