As protests erupt in Jawaharlal Nehru university over a missing student, Union home minister Rajnath Singh has directed the Delhi police to form a special team to probe the case. Singh spoke to Delhi police commissioner twice even as the cops have launched a manhunt to trace Najeeb Ahmed, who went missing on Saturday following a brawl on the campus a night before.
The Delhi police has formed a special investigation team and is also liasioning with other state police forces to find out his whereabouts .
Sources in the Home ministry said that various angles of the missing case including any possible rivalries, both personal and political in nature, would be examined.
Meanwhile, minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju came down heavily on the protesting students saying, "It seems that some students go to JNU not for studying but for doing only politics." He said, "It is wrong to confine the vice chancellor and other officials of the university. JNU is a big institution. They should concentrate on studies and carry out all their activities within the framework of law and order."
It may be recalled that the Rajnath Singh had earlier said that terror outfits, backed by the ISI, were trying to foment trouble in the university campus during the protests led by student leader Kanhaiya Kumar where anti-India slogans were allegedly raised.
The ministry is keeping a close watch on the developments as it is concerned over the latest incident and does not want the protests to spiral out of control.
