punjab-woman-dragged A TV grab

In a shocking case of violence against woman and public apathy in Punjab, a 24-year-old woman was dragged out of her office, kidnapped and then raped by an accused who has now been identified Gurjinder alias Jojo. What's more. The incident took place in a broad day light in full public view and nobody went to the rape survivor’s help.

The abduction and rape happened on March 25. However, it only came to light after news channels aired the CCTV footage showing the accused man forcefully dragging the victim from a computer centre against her will as she struggles and shouts for help to escape from his clutches. The act was caught on a CCTV camera of a shop close to the victim's work place in Muktsar in Punjab.

According to media reports, the victim was raped by the accused at a farmhouse and was only released the next day.

Meanwhile, an FIR was filed by the police in the case five days after the incident and no arrests were made until Saturday (April 23).

The reports said that police have claimed the accused, Gurjinder, was known to the victim as they belonged to the same village.

The family of the Dalit victim has sought assistance from the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the case. The Commission, in response, has sought the police to share information on the investigation into the incident, said reports.
