Police loot toll plaza

Mathura: A video, highlighting the law and order condition in Uttar Pradesh, has surfaced, wherein the police personnel, including the circle officer, refinery department, were seen looting a toll plaza in Mathura. The incident, which took place on the intervening night of August 22 and August 23, was recorded in the CCTV camera, in which the police personnel can be clearly seen manhandling the staff at the Mahuvan Toll Plaza, and looting the cash. The staff of the toll plaza claims that the police personnel came out of their vehicle and began threatening the staff. After an argument, the cops manhandled the staff. The police personnel, on the other hand, claimed that they were on a patrolling duty when they received a complaint of over-rating and insolent behaviour by the staff of the toll plaza after which they went there. As per reports, the toll plaza authorities have filed a complaint against the six police personnel and have also submitted the CCTV footage to support their allegation.



New Rail Board chief

New Delhi: Air India Chairman and Managing DirectorAshwani Lohani will assume the charge of Railways Board Chairman on Thursday. He said that his journey with the Air India was one of the most satisfying periods of his life. Lohani has earlier served as Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Delhi Division; Director, National Rail Museum; and Chief Administrative Officer, Rail Alternate Fuel. Lohani was appointed Railways Board Chairman soon after A.K. Mittal stepped down from the post. Mittal took this drastic step after Uttar Pradesh witnessed two train derailments within five days; where 10 coaches of Kaifiyat Express heading towards Delhi derailed after colliding with a dumper near Auraiya district and over 20 people have been injured. Also, on August 19, more than 20 died and 200 were injured after 13 coaches of the Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express ran off the tracks in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district.



Doctors on strike


New Delhi: The resident doctors at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi went on strike for indefinite period on Wednesday after their colleague was allegedly manhandled by the attendants of a patient. The emergency services were also interrupted at the hospital. The strike badly affected the patients who were asked to return from the emergency gate by the security guards without being treated. A resident doctor was allegedly assaulted by a patient in the Out Patient Department (OPD) of the hospital on Wednesday. The resident doctors said that they called for strike to oppose such assault and to get their security concerns fulfilled. "Around 2:30 in the afternoon, a patient assaulted a doctor alleging that his treatment was being delayed by the doctor. Such incidents are not new to us. Earlier also we witnessed such violence. Our security should be increased to check such attacks. We will go for indefinite strike till our demands are fulfilled," Dheer Singh, president of Safdurjung resident doctors said. An FIR was also filed in this regard, said Sigh demanding proper security arrangement in the hospital.


Festival blues


Kolkata: Urging people to ensure communal amity during the coming festival of Durga Puja and the observance of Muharram, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday warned that some vested interests could try to foment trouble to promote their political interests. Banerjee said with Muharram slated to be observed a day after Dussera or Bijoya Dashami, the administration had fixed September 30, as also October 2-4 as the dates for immersion of the idols of Durga and her children. The Chief Ministers asked the Police Superintendents of all the districts to call the organisers of Durga Puja and Muharram in all the localities for discussions and pass her message. "We won't allow anybody to disturb the secular fabric of our state. I have asked people to take stringent action against trouble makers," she said.

Snow leopard campaign


Mumbai: Bollywood actress and ardent animal lover Dia Mirza will attend the International Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Forum (Summit 2017) to campaign for the protection of snow leopards. "12 countries are meeting in Kyrgyzstan to protect the snow leopard and their habitats! Proud to be a part Snow Leopard Forum 2017," Dia posted. The actress, brand ambassador for the Wildlife Trust of India, had earlier adopted two cheetah cubs at the Prince of Wales zoological park in Lucknow. She has been felicitated at award functions for her active involvement in social and environmental issues. The International Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Forum (Summit 2017) began on Wednesday. The effort is towards protecting the snow leopard, and to galvanize international support for their ambitious plan of securing 20 snow leopard landscapes by the year 2020.
