The Jnanpith award winner poet said: “I am pained to see how the private hospital could do this even after the intervention of honourable chief minister a few days back asking them to be human. I feel sad for the man’s death.”

Sanjoy Roy, a resident of Dankuni, who was admitted to Apollo after he met with an accident, died as the hospital allegedly refused to release him in time to be admitted to a government hospital, before paying the full amount of the bill. Sanjoy's family wanted to shift him to the state-run SSKM hospital as they could not meet the bill at Apollo. He died soon after being admitted to the government hospital.

Meanwhile, after the intervention of former minister Madan Mitra, the Apollo Hospitals authorities offered to pay back the extra money the bereaved family paid by depositing their fixed account money, cheques and cash collected from the local people.

But the family has refused to accept the amount.

Juhi, wife of the deceased said, “I will not accept the money. They have killed my husband. My little child lost his guardian which cannot be compensated through money.”
