In a first in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the National Women’s Parliament at Pavitra Sangamam in the capital region of Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh.

Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, along with a host of leaders from India and abroad, will attend the inaugural session of the three-day event to be held between February 10 and 12. The theme of the conclave is “Empowering Women-Strengthening Democracy."

The idea behind this parliament is essentially to generate new ideas to empower women from all classes of society. The event is hosted by the state government and has the support from various organisations including the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The parliament will come out with an Amaravati Declaration on women empowerment at the end of the three-day deliberations.
