Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took the floor of the Parliament with a single determination to shred the opposition. He delivered a point by point counter response to the Opposition leaders, with remarks loaded with sarcasm.

Modi began his speech on a rather inclusive note and revoked quotations of Congress heavy-weights like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, which were against disrupting the functioning of the parliament.

In his speech, Modi alleged that his government has been dealing with the problems left behind by the previous UPA government. He said the Congress governments, over a period of six decades, has consistently provided misgovernance and sowed the seeds of poverty very deep in the country.

He said several schemes for poor under the Congress-led governments have not reached the intended beneficiary. However, the NDA government has been creating a system to ensure that the benefits reach the people in need without much hassle, Modi said.

He also questioned intentions of the Opposition leaders behind stalling the proceedings of the parliament and not passing the important bills like Goods and Services Tax and Consumer Bills.

He said that he was the first time member of parliament and has a lot of things to learn from the senior leaders of the House. He sought the Opposition's help to identify the problems in the government and find solutions to them and help it function better in its tasks.
