Amid prevailing uncertainty over much-delayed Foreign Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan, the Pakistani authorities have reportedly completed initial investigations into Pathankot attack and submitted the report to India.
Pakistan has handed over its initial investigation report on Pathankot attack to Indian authorities, the Geo News has quoted sources as saying.
According to the report, authorities have claimed that the numbers provided by India were not registered in Pakistan.
Pakistan has dispatched its findings to New Delhi and is expecting a response from Indian authorities soon.
India has provided Pakistan mobile numbers and communication intercepts that indicated that terrorists of Pathankot strike originated from Pakistan. The Modi-government has been pressing Pakistan government to take action on the leads provided to the latter to go ahead with talks.
The United States also urged the Pakistan government to act fast on the leads provided by India fast.
A senior US state department official had said “Pakistan should not come out with lame excuses to shield them as has been the case with the Mumbai terrorist attack.”
Under pressure Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has constituted a high-profile joint investigation team to investigate his country's links to Pathankot attack.
Pakistan agencies have also picked up "some suspects" connected to Pathankot airbase attack from Bahwalapur district, according to media reports.
Bahwalapur district is the hometown of Maulana Masood Azhar, chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed, a banned terror outfit suspected to be the mastermind of Pathankot strike.
On the intervening night of January 1 and January 2, a group of terrorists from Pakistan laid siege on Indian Air Force facility in Punjab's Pathankot. The mission was to destroy the high value assets of the airbase.
In the four day counter-terror operation, all six terrorist were neutralised. However, seven security personnel were martyred and over 20 injured in the attack.
