Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Maharashtra minister Pankaja Munde has announced her decision to submit her resignation after a humiliating electoral defeat of the party in her constituency, Parli, in Beed district.
Pankaja Munde is the daughter of late BJP stalwart Gopinath Munde and niece of another party giant late Pramod Mahajan.
After the death of Gopinath Munde in 2014, Pankaja headed the party operations in Beed district. She won the Parli seat for second time in 2014 assembly polls and became minister in Devendra Fadnavis government.
However, in the recently held Zilla Parishad elections in Beed district, BJP has done badly. To make things worse for Pankaja, the party lost all of six ZP seats in Pankaja's constituency of Parli.
Pankaja said she would submit her resignation to the chief minister upon her return to Mumbai. It remains to be seen whether Fadnavis will accept her resignation.
