Selling tickets

Out on bail, Dayashankar Singh fires fresh salvo against Mayawati

Expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh has demanded a CBI probe into the allegation of Bahujam Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati selling tickets to candidates.

He said he plans to file a PIL in the court if the state government does not seek a CBI probe into the matter and added that he would soon meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders to clarify his stand. He further said a CBI probe would reveal how much money the tickets are being sold for.

Singh, who has become increasingly vocal after getting bail from Mau court after he was arrested for making derogatory remarks against Mayawati, spoke to reporters after his release from prison. He openly challenged Mayawati to contest polls from any unreserved seat in the state against his wife Swati Singh, who would fight as an independent candidate.

“I have been associated with the BJP, Sangh and Vidyarathi Parishad for the past 23 years and step by step I reached the position of party’s vice president of the state. But the party expelled me. I am not separate from the party. In my haemoglobin there is only BJP and nationalism,” he said.

Singh, who went home after he was granted bail, appeared before the media with his wife.

"The state government had made elaborate arrangements for my arrest as if it was nabbing Dawood Ibrahim," he said. "There were more than 16 vehicles and 60 cops to arrest me."

His main grouse was that although he was thrown out from the party and later put behind bars, no action was initiated against BSP leader Naseemuddin who made equally derogatory remarks against Singh's mother, daughter and wife. He alleged that the Samajawadi Party government has been hesitating to take any stern action against Naseemuddin as it feared that such a move would alienate Muslim votes.

“Mayawati is the most corrupt leader. Despite being born in a poor family, she and her brothers possess wealth amounting to crores. Naseemuddin, who served in the home guard, amassed wealth after joining hands with Mayawati. Satish Mishra’s (another BSP leader) property grew by leaps and bounds after he came in contact with Mayawati and today he is opening medical colleges and universities,” he said.

Coming to the support of Singh, his wife Swati said although she had the people supporting her, the police and the administration were against her. She went on to say the cops were under tremendous pressure to not take any action against Naseemuddin.
