It has been a week since the Apollo hospital in Chennai, where Jayalalithaa is undergoing treatment, released a medical bulletin over the health condition of the chief minister, even as special poojas and prayers continued across the state for her speedy recovery.

The 68-year-old chief minister was hospitalised on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration. The doctors later said she needed a longer stay at the hospital as she was suffering from infection and put her on respiratory support.

In the last bulletin issued on Monday, the hospital had said she continued to be under treatment and was being constantly monitored by intensivists and other consultants in the expert panel, while respiratory support, antibiotics, nutrition, supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy were being given to her.

The Tamil Nadu police have been strictly monitoring the social networking sites to check spreading of rumours and speculations about the chief minister. Over 50 cases have been filed and eight people arrested for allegedly spreading false information about her health condition.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the hospital to enquire about the health condition of the chief minister.

"The prime minister is keen to know about the health condition of Jayalalithaa and get updates on it and will soon visit Chennai," Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan was quoted as saying by reports. Despite political differences, both Jayalalithaa and Modi have enjoyed a good personal rapport.

A galaxy of leaders, including Union minister Arun Jaitley, BJP chief Amit Shah and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, have already visited the hospital. Tamil superstar Rajinikanth also visited the hospital on Sunday.
