No specific travel advisory for India at present from the US, added the External Affairs Minister

India does not plan to issue any travel advisory for Indians travelling to the United States (US) in the aftermath of the three attacks on Indian-origin people in the country, in which two people were killed.

In reply to a query in the Lok Sabha, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, “The prompt and clear response of the US political leadership and the law enforcement authorities to these incidents, and the widespread messages of sympathy and support from all quarters in the US give us confidence that these incidents are acts of individuals and do not represent the overwhelming sentiments of the American people towards India.''

The minister mentioned Ian Grillot, the youth who suffered injuries while trying to help Srinivas Kuchibhotla and his friend when they were attacked. “I have saluted his heroism and am sure the House joins me in wishing him speedy recovery,” she said.

The minister also denied the US had issued any India specific travel advisory. “There is no travel advisory for India at the present. A reference to India has been included in their 'worldwide caution' report which the US state department releases every six months. These are in the form of broad assessment of threat perceptions. Such reference to India have been included in previous reports as well and do not reflect the change of administration in the US. In fact, India specific references were far more detailed in previous reports.''

Swaraj said the US-India strategic partnership was built on the foundation of people-to-people contacts and that despite the recent incidents, this engagement remains strong.
