No new party for now, announces Mulayam Singh

The patron of Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav has put a complete stop on forming any new political front, but bitterly castigated his son and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav at a press conference on Monday. Assailing Akhilesh, Mulayam said, “People will never trust one who can deceive his father. But my blessings are with him because Akhilesh is my son.”

It was expected that he might announce ‘something big’—a new political outfit, at the press meet. But nothing came of the political speculations. Immediately after the press conference, Akhilesh tweeted—“Netaji (Mulayam Singh) zindabad Samajwadi Party zindabad.”

Mulayams’ younger brother Shivpal Yadav abstained from the press conference after sensing that there would be no announcement on the formation of new political party. It may be recalled that in the tug of war between Mulayam and his son Akhilesh, Shivpal stood by Mulayam. He had been harping on the formation of a new political party ever since.

Earlier this year, in a coup, Akhilesh had unseated Mulayam and had become the national president of the party. As retaliation, Mulayam did not take part in campaigning for the SP. In the recently concluded state executive meet of the party, Akhilesh targeted his uncle Shivpal Yadav by cautioning the party cadres to beware of  “fake Samajwadi leaders.” He avoided saying anything against his father Mulayam Singh. As a mark of protest, Mulyam and Shvipal did not take part in the state executive meet.

Mulayam attacked both the central and the state governments and raked up the recent BHU issue. He attacked Yogi government saying, "There is no rule of law in Uttar Pradesh.” He said that the Modi government had not done anything substantial in the past three years and pulled up the government for skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel.
