No need of inquiry into killing of SIMI activists: BJP

With doubts being raised from various corners over the police encounter that led to the killing of eight SIMI activists, who escaped from Bhopal jail, the BJP gave a clean chit to the police team saying there was no need for an inquiry. The ruling party attacked the Congress, particularly its leader Digvijay Singh, for doubting the encounter.

“How can anyone question the encounter? The terrorists killed a police constable in the jail (before escaping). Should police take permission from Digvijay Singh or Sonia Gandhi every time they faces a terrorist?” BJP secretary and spokesperson Shrikant Sharma said in a press conference.

He accused the Congress, who he sarcastically referred to as Italy Congress, of practicing vote bank politics every time they refer to the religion of the terrorists.

Several leaders, including Congress' Digvijay Singh and CPI(M)'s Prakash Karat had demanded that encounter be probed under judicial scrutiny.

"The Italy Congress leaders are mourning. Why does the Congress have so much sympathy for terrorists whether they belong to SIMI or LeT. This is not the first time they are doing it. They had questioned the Batla House encounter too," Sharma said adding that Digvijay Singh had earlier hinted at the RSS involvement in the Mumbai terror attack in 2008.

In a separate question on Pakistani High Commission staffer caught by the Delhi Police on charges of spying, Sharma said their office in Delhi had become a den of ISI activities.

“The reality is that the high commission here has become an ISI den. It is breaking all rules and laws…Its work is no longer about diplomatic relationship. It has become a centre of smuggling information from here to there (Pakistan),” Sharma charged.
