No let up in Yadav family feud

mulayam-singh-up-pti Samajwadi party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav | PTI

Eventhough it may be an uphill task to predict how the Yadav family feud will end up in the future, one thing is for sure. All is not well in the family. At a press conference held on Tuesday, Mulayam tried to play down the differences in the family and the party, but the absence of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav in the press conference was conspicuous. Initially, Akhilesh was supposed to attend the conference but did not turn up. But his uncle Shivpal was present there. Akhilesh’s absence is being construed as the chief minister's unhappiness with the way the things are proceeding.

Mulayam ducked controversial questions and came out with circuitous replies. When asked whether Akhilesh will be the face of CM in the coming polls, Mulaym said that ours was a democratic party and that legislators will take the decision on CM after the polls.

He categorically said that the family and the party were united and that there are no differences. Answering a question about Amar Singh, Mulayam countered, “why are you dragging Amar Singh in between?” About revoking suspension of four ministers including that of Shivpal by the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam said , “CM will take a decision in this connection.” But he made a clear show of his animosity towards his brother, the sacked SP leader Ramgopal Yadav, stating that now he did not give any importance to what Ramgopal said.

It may be recalled that Mulayam's bother Ramgopal was expelled from the party on Sunday for his open support to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. The SP is presently facing the worst ever crisis since its inception. And the past two days events have vindicated that the family feud has reached a point of no return. All efforts from the part of Mulayam to bring a truce within the party and the family have not succeeded. The absence of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav at the press conference is being linked with no let up in the family feud.
