The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday began raids at six places, four places in Gurdaspur and two in Amritsar, in connection with the alleged abduction of former Pathankot SP Salwinder Singh.
The places that are being raided belong to Salwinder Singh, his friend Rajesh Verma and his cook Madan Gopal, who were also allegedly abducted by terrorists from Pakistan during the intervening night of December 31 and January 1.
Salwinder Singh, currently serving as Assistant Commandant of 75th Punjab Armed Police, has been under scanner for providing contradicting statements to investigators on his abduction. He was even subjected to polygraph test as part of the investigation. He underwent the lie detector test for two consecutive days.
Meanwhile, Singh now will be subjected to behavioural tests on Friday by a team of scientists. The panel will include a 'Behavioural analyst' and 'Psychoanalysts', which would help investigators in developing a scientific assessment of his personality.
Singh, who was shunted out as as Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Gurdaspur is being grilled by the NIA officials, who are trying to understand the sequence of events after he was kidnapped by Pakistan's Jaish-e-Mohammed(JeM), which subsequently launched an attack on Indian Air Force facility in Punjab's Pathankot.
Singh came under the scanner after he had said that he and the cook were released after their abduction whereas one of their friends, who was travelling with them, Rajesh Verma, had been left bleeding midway by the terrorists.
Also, his statement that he was returning from a shrine, which he often visited, was found to be allegedly incorrect after NIA questioned caretaker of the dargah Somraj who told the probe agency that the police officer had come for the first time.
On the intervening night of January 1 and January 2, a group of terrorists from Pakistan laid siege on airbase in Pathankot. The mission was to destroy the high value assets of the airbase.
In the four day counter-terror operation, all six terrorist were neutralised. However, seven security personnel were martyred and over 20 injured in the attack.
