In a shocking incident, a National Investigation Agency official, identified as Tanzeel Ahmed, was shot dead in Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh by two unidentified bike-borne assailants on Saturday night, when he was returning from a wedding with family. The officer’s wife, who was travelling with him, also sustained serious injured in the shootout.

The attackers intercepted his WagonR car and shot at him from a close range.

The officer was rushed to hospital by locals. However, he was declared brought dead and his wife is undergoing treatment in critical condition.

The motive behind the attack on the officer was immediately unclear. A team of NIA and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have reached Moradabad hospital, where the body of the slain officer is kept.

According to reports, Tanzeel was part of several high-profile investigations of NIA. He was also part of the team that probed terror attack on Punjab's Pathankot airbase.

He was also part of investigation in terror cases involving Islamic State and Indian Mujahideen, said reports.

He was on leave in Bijnor to attend a relative's wedding.
