NEET results on June 26; answer keys to be out on Thursday

Supreme Court's order on NEET results has come as a huge relief to medical aspirants. In an order on June 12, the apex court had asked CBSE to declare NEET results, that had been stalled because of an interim order by Madras High court. The top court said that it was inclined to grant a stay on the high court's order which was indirectly "diluting" the schedule for NEET 2017 earlier fixed by the apex court.

Yukti Arora, a student who appeared for NEET exam this year says that she was extremely concerned about the results, considering what happened last year and in 2015. "I was fearing a re examination as it had happened last year," says Arora.

CBSE has already started the process of preparing the results and it will be out by June 26, said an official from the board. The answer keys will be displayed on Thursday on CBSE NEET website.

The images of OMR answer sheets and responses to the questions marked by the candidates who had appeared in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test will be displayed for challenges by the candidates only for two days instead of three days.

While the results will be declared, counselling and admission will be subject to further Supreme Court orders.

"Supreme Court’s judgment on NEET 2017 results declaration is a welcome decision and considered in favor of majority of students who appeared for the national examination. Around 11.5 lakh students appeared for NEET this year out of which approximately 10% students opted for regional languages. Even though questions were different in the papers for regional languages, there was a uniformity in the degree of difficulty of the questions in all papers, therefore, we look forward to result announcements soon," says Anurag Tiwari, national academic director, Aakash Institute.

The results were stopped by Madras high court on pleas that question paper was not uniform and there was a vast difference between the ones in English and in Tamil. CBSE has, however, refuted the allegation saying that question papers in regional languages and English were different but the difficulty level was identical.

This year, besides English and Hindi, the test was conducted in eight regional languages as per the orders of the apex court. He said around 10.5 lakh aspirants had given the test in either English or Hindi while 1.30 lakh-1.50 lakh candidates had opted for regional languages

"Students put years of effort to qualify NEET which decides the future of millions of students in a one day test. It's really sad that many deserving candidates suffer due to such uncertainty around NEET. Government should take all possible steps to bring transparency in such important exams. We empathise with students and wish them the best. We welcome the Supreme Court's order to declare NEET 2017 results," said Rajshekhar Ratrey, VP, Educational content at Toppr.com.

A total of 11,38,890 students including 1,522 non-resident Indians and 613 foreign nationals appeared for the exam. The NEET 2017 was conducted for 65,000 MBBS and 25,000 BDS seats.
