Nearly a dozen security personnel of central paramilitary forces were killed today by Naxals in Sukuma district of South Bastar. According to Sukuma Police, the jawans were patrolling early in the morning when they were attacked.

The attack took place on Injaram-Bheji road in south of Sukma near Telangana border. According to initial reports, about hundred jawans of the 219th battalion of CRPF were on a regular road-opening exercise when Maoists ambushed the well-trained security forces. The attack took place near Kottacheru village where Naxals were hiding in ambush position.

Reports said Naxals have also looted arms from the security forces.

This is one of the biggest attack this year where so many casualties have been reported. Many jawans have also been injured. Three seriously injured personnel are being airlifted to Raipur for better treatment. They were admitted to Behji primary health centre.

Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh has condemned the attack.  “This is a very dastardly step of Maoists who are swiftly losing ground due to pressure from our forces,” said the chief minister.
