Keeping in mind the stumbling block that the Kapu reservation can become, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, while speaking with Kapu representatives in Vijayawada on Monday, said he was the one who added the Kapu reservation point in the 2014 election manifesto.

He said he did this because he believes in social justice, and added that he had identified the need for Kapu inclusion in BC list. Naidu assured that the representation would be recommended to the Central government after getting the report from Manjunadha commission.

The Kapu reservation issue has been going on for a few years and while Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham has been kept under house arrest each time he talks of a padayatra, Naidu knows that it would not go down well with the general public, leave alone the Kapu populace.

Monday's meeting held with the aim to bring about some semblance of compromise to keep the Kapu leader quiet for some time.

Meanwhile, Padmanabham continued to tell his followers to increase the pressure on the government and told them to be patient too even as they continued their agitation.

Kapu women have been rguing that reservation would be beneficial for their children to pursue higher education and land a decent job. Seeing the support from the crowd on Sunday evening, Padmanabham launched his trademark protest of beating the empty plate with a spoon and alleged that the government was foiling his attempts to launch the padayatra.

“The government made obtaining permission mandatory only for the Kapu padayatra. There is no such rule for any other caste or political party,” he pointed out.
