Mumbai collector sits on 166 proposals of land acquisition

bmc Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation

According to a reply to an RTI query, the Mumbai collector has been holding back 166 proposals of land acquisition though the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has already paid more than Rs 540 crore for the purpose.

RTI activist Anil Galgali says, "BMC has paid Rs 539,75,16,990 for the acquisition of total land area of 7,59,027.43 square feet got important projects such as building school, playgrounds, parking lots, garden and roads." According to him, the acquisition of land for these projects in the city and the suburbs is pending due to the lackadaisical attitude of the collector. According to the conditions stipulated in the law, BMC has paid the 50 per cent amount to the Collector to begin the process of acquisition.

Anil Galgali had, initially, sought information on two major road contracts. He realised that the Collector's office was sitting on acquisition proceedings of major projects all over Mumbai. All the acquisition is proposed on the lands reserved for public amenities, as per the approved development plan of BMC. A record number of 21 acquisition proposals of Andheri K-West ward are pending with the Collector.

The details of ward-wise projects lying with the collector are as follows:
