Mukul Roy, on Wednesday, resigned from the Rajya Sabha. He submitted his resignation to chairman of the Rajya Sabha and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.

Roy met Naidu at 3.30pm. He has also decided to vacate his official residence allocated by the Rajya Sabha.

Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee called his resignation the end of his political life.

“He has decided to surrender before the pressure tactics of BJP. Let him plunge into deep trouble. We can do little,” said Chatterjee.

Roy, the former railway minister in UPA-I government, will hold a press conference to divulge what drove him to resign from the Trinamool Congress and Rajya Sabha.

Mukul Roy lashed out at Mamata Banerjee for her dynastic politics and ill-treatment of party activists, but stopped short from terming her an accused in the Saradha scam.

Roy submitted his resignation to the vice president and then told the media in Delhi the reason why he left Trinamool Congress and the membership of Rajya Sabha, for which he was nominated by Mamata Banerjee.

The suspended Trinamool Congress leader said he was pained to leave the party.

“I had constituted the Trinamool Congress party which Mamata Banerjee later joined. It was me who wrote to the Election Commission, telling our decision to induct Mamata into the party after she was expelled from Congress,” said Roy.

He indirectly called Mamata a dictator who treated the leaders of the party as her servant.

“Yes she was my leader. But I am not a servant,” said Roy.

Roy said he was going on a leave till he decided about his course of action. He admitted that he was in touch with the BJP.

“Till something is worked out, I will be out of politics for some times,” said he.

On being asked about his role in Saradha scam, Roy said he had cooperated with the CBI.

“I was being interrogated by the CBI in Saradha scam for eight hours. After that, they filed eight chargesheets. I think they got whatever they needed,” said he.

On being asked whether Mamata knew about Saradha scam, Roy said, “I think she did not. It was the individual responsibilities.”

Roy was all praises for the BJP, saying it was not communal party, which raised speculations about an impending defection to the saffron party.

“If Atal Behari Vajpayee is not communal, then L.K. Advani is not communal as well,” he said.
