The Kapu agitation is likely to escalate in Andhra Pradesh with community leader Mudragada Padmanabham announcing a five-day padayatra in East Godavari district demanding reservation for the community. The yatra will begin at Ravulapalem on November 16 and end at Antarvedi.
Mudragada, along with members of the Kapu Reservation Movement Joint Action Committee, has invited the community members to participate in the rally, where they will wear black bands to protest against the delay in according BC status to the community.
Mudragada, who has been accusing the government of deceiving the Kapus over the reservation issue, hopes that the yatra will highlight the “raw deal” being meted out to the community. According to him, the BC commission, constituted by the Chandrababu Naidu government, is delaying the submission of its report on one pretext or the other.
An agitation, held by the Kapu community under the leadership of Mudragada on January 31, had turned violent with the protestors setting on fire a passenger train, a police station, and police and private vehicles. This time, Mudragada has warned the activists against consuming alcohol during the five days of protest.
