POLL CAMPAIGN

PM Modi to fly in India's first ever seaplane in Gujarat

INDIA-ELECTION/ Prime Minister Narendra Modi | Reuters

A day before Gujarat witnesses second and last phase of polling for the assembly elections, a seaplane will land in the Sabarmati Riverfront on Tuesday to fly off Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dharoi Dam.

BJP national president Amit Shah claimed on Monday night that the seaplane that would land in Ahmedabad waters would be the first one to land in the country.

At the Sabarmati Riverfront on Monday, Modi said that 106 such water ways had been planned in the country.

The seaplane will land near the Sardar Bridge at 9.30 am. From there it will take the prime minister and go to Dharoi, which is 188 km by road from Ahmedabad. From there, Modi will go by road to seek the blessings of Goddess Amba at the famous Ambaji Temple. The temple is 48 kilometer away from the Dharoi Dam.

After having the darshan, he will again board the seaplane from the dam site and reach Ahmedabad by 2.30 pm.

Elections to 93 assembly seats will be held on December 14.

Sources said that the expenses incurred for the trip would have to be accounted in the party's election expenditure.

Two days ago, Spicejet had conducted seaplane trials at Mumbai's Giragum Chowpatty. The trial was conducted in association with a Japanese company.
