Modi scared of debates on Jay Shah, Rafale deal: Rahul

INDIA-POLITICS-CONGRESS Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi | PTI

Stepping up his attack on the Union government, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Friday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not allowing winter session of the Parliament as he does not want a discussion on Jay Shah, BJP national president Amit Shah's son, and Rafale deal ahead of Gujarat assembly elections.

Gujarat goes to polls in two phases on December 9 and 14.

Rahul was receiving one of the largest national flags made by dalits near Sanand, about 30 kilometer away from Ahmedabad.

Referring to Jay's business that is alleged to have increased manifold after the NDA came to power, Rahul said that this can not be done without cheating.

Rahul said that while Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Modi did not have space to keep the national tri-colour, they have space all over the country for five to ten industrialists. “Even if I did not have space, I would have accepted the flag as I have place in the heart,” he said.

The flag was prepared by the dalits as part of the Untouchability Free India mission and was supposed to be given to Rupani before August 15, this year. The chief minister's representative, however, refused to take it saying that there was no space and that they would accept it once they had space.

The Congress leader, who is on a two-day election campaign in the state, also accused Modi of making services costly in Gujarat. “What he did at Gujarat level, he is repeating it at the national level,” he said.

The Congress leader played the dalit card and said that it was not just about declaring one village of Gujarat free from untouchability, our job is to remove the very notion of untouchability from the minds of people of the country.

Members of the Dalit Shakti Kendra had a request for the chief minister to declare on village of Gujarat free from untouchability on August 15 this year. The state government, however, had not made any declaration to this effect.
