CPI(M) general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Sitaram Yechury has condemned the statement of an RSS leader from Madhya Pradesh who on Thursday offered Rs 1 crore for the head of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Said Yechury to THE WEEK, “RSS has revealed its true colours. Let us see what the Union government has to say about it. We will approach the president and the government after that.”
It was Kundan Chandrawat, an RSS leader from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, who said he would give Rs 1 crore reward for Vijayan’s head. He said he would sell his property to raise the money. When asked about Chandrawat’s threat, Vijayan said, “The RSS may want to chop off others’ head. But I will not stop travelling because of that.”
Kerala, of late, has been witnessing political clashes between the workers of the RSS-BJP and the CPI(M), with several losing their lives. Last week, the Kerala High Court strongly criticised the serial political killings in the state. The court said, “Annihilation of political opponents has become the order of the day, ignoring the fact that divergent political ideologies are natural in a democratic polity with a multiparty system.”
The BJP’s general secretary in Kerala, M.T. Ramesh, has condemned Chandrawat’s statement. Said Ramesh to THE WEEK, “We are giving too much importance to it. He is a local leader of the RSS in Madhya Pradesh. The RSS has already disowned the statement made by the person. The matter ends there.”
