A case of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib has been reported at Jahangir Gurdwara village on the outskirts of the city in Amritsar, police said on sunday.

The incident occurred on Saturday when as few unidentified people entered the Gurdwara and allegedly tore a few pages of the Sikh holy scripture, SHO Kamboj, Shivdarshan Singh said.

A case has been registered against the unidentified accused, he said, adding the culprits will be arrested soon.

The investigation is going on a war footing, Singh said.

Punjab had witnessed many sacrilege incidents last year, leading to widespread violence in the state. Two people were killed in the incidents and many others injured.
