Mathura violence mastermind among the dead: UP DIG

  • DGP Javeed Ahmed tweeted that some associates of Yadav has identified his body from among 11-odd charred bodies lying in Mathura’s Jawahar Bagh, where a police anti-encroachment drive resulted in a violent clash.

Ram Vriksha Yadav, who is largely seen as the alleged mastermind of the Mathura violence, has been killed, Uttar Pradesh director general of police confirmed on Saturday. Meanwhile, three more people injured in violent clashes have succumbed to injuries taking the the death toll to 27.

DGP Javeed Ahmed tweeted that some associates of Yadav has identified his body from among 11-odd charred bodies lying in Mathura’s Jawahar Bagh, where a police anti-encroachment drive resulted in a violent clash.

Sixty-year-old Yadav was the leader of Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi, an outfit claiming to owe allegiance to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose whose members had encroached on Jawahar Bagh area for two years and clashed with police on Thursday when they tried to evict them.

Tight security arrangements remained in place with police preventing BJP MP from Mathura Hema Malini, who led a protest by the party, from entering the violence-hit area, citing ongoing probe and combing operation.

Hema Malini, who earlier invited Twitter backlash after she upload pictures of her film shoot in Mumbai when violence rocked her constituency, has rushed back to Mathura and levelled criticism against media and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav raised compensation to the next of kin of the two slain police officers from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh even as opposition stepped up attack on him, questioning why he did not visit Mathura yet.

Mukul Dwivedi, Superintendent of Police and Santosh Yadav, Station House officer, Farah, were killed in the violence.
