Manipur CM slams Modi's 'economic blockade' remark

Manipur Chief Minister Okaram Ibobi Singh lambasted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remark on Saturday that if BJP governed Manipur, there would not be any economic blockade.

Singh said: “I did not expect such words from the respected prime minister. He has downgraded his position.”

“His statement means that if the BJP does not come to power in Manipur, the blockade and other menace will continue. It clearly means the BJP is in alliance with United Naga Council (UNC) and its parent body National Socialist Council of Nagaland — Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM),” said the chief minister.

Singh grumbled that the Centre didn't put the state in the loop while making deals with NSCN-IM.

“The central government failed to tell the Manipur government about the progress of talks with NSCN - IM. We are completely on the dark,” said he.

Reiterating what he had told THE WEEK a few weeks back, Singh said: “BJP can never break Manipur government as long as I am the chief minister. The Congress will have its government in the state. The deal between Centre and the NSCN (IM)  goes against the interest of Manipur which people of Manipur would thwart in the coming election.”
