Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi has reportedly differed with the National Commission for Women on summoning Bollywood star Salman Khan over his alleged rape remark.

According to a media report, the minister asked NCW chief Lalitha Kumaramangalam not to give priorities to celebrities when there are several cases of rape pending with the panel.

The Maharashtra State Women's commission has summoned the 'Sultan' actor on July 15 after he failed to turn up on July 7 to explain his controversial remark.

Maneka Gandhi said if Khan did not turn up, it would set a bad example, and that other accused would start using it as a precedent to avoid summons from the panel.

This is the second time in this week Maneka Gandhi and the NCW chief locking horns. Earlier Kumaramangalam had objected to Maneka Gandhi's plan to devise a system to help girls and women who are subjected to the online abuse.
