In a shocking case of inhumanity, a 52-year-old man, who was standing in a queue in front of an ATM at Bandel in Hooghly district of West Bengal, died on Saturday as he was left unattended for an hour after collapsing and falling on ground.

Kallol Roychowdhury, a resident of Behala in Kolkata, is the third man in the state who has died while standing in the long queue of bank ATMs.

Roychowdhury, an employee of Irrigation department of West Bengal government, posted at Cooch Behar in North Bengal, was returning home last night. He got off the train on Saturday morning at Bandel station.

Roychowdhury went straight to an SBI ATM located near to the railway station. There was a long queue, but Roychowdury decided to stand in the queue to withdraw money as he was returning home after a long time.

About 15 minutes later he felt bad and slumped on the ground. The others did not bother to attend Roychowdhury, and moved ahead crossing him.

According to police, after around one hour, some people decided to do little ‘sacrifice’ and informed local police station, but only after withdrawing their cash from the ATM.

“Getting information we went to the spot and took him to a local clinic where he was declared brought dead. There were around 50 people, but none was ready to take him to hospital as they would miss the chance to withdraw cash from ATM,” said an officer of the Hooghly district police.

Police could identify Roychowdhury after they found his identity card while searching his bag.

The doctor said he had suffered a massive heart attack while standing in the ATM queue.
