Opposition protests after denied permission to discuss farmer, dalit issues

The Lok Sabha was on Wednesday adjourned till 12 noon after opposition parties led by the Congress created a ruckus on issues related to farmers and atrocities against dalits and minorities.

As soon as the House met at 11 am, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge wanted to raise these issues but was not allowed to do so.

Soon after, opposition members rushed towards Speaker Sumitra Mahajan's podium and started shouting slogans.

"Today, agriculture is listed in the business and I urge the opposition members to please discuss the issues related to agriculture and farmers," Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar said.

"We are ready for a discussion, so please don't disturb the House," Kumar said, adding that the government will inform parliament about what it is doing for the welfare of the farmers.

Amid the ruckus, the Speaker tried to conduct the Question Hour.

P.R. Sundaram of AIADMK congratulated the Modi government and ISRO for launching a nano satellite and queried about the launching of more satellites. Minister of State Jitendra Singh responded to his query amid the din.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present in the House.

As the din continued, Mahajan adjourned the House till 12 noon.

"You just want to create ruckus. You don't want to discuss," Mahajan said while adjourning the House.
