Bars and restaurants selling liquor on national and state highways inside towns will be operational once again in Madhya Pradesh.

With the new ruling of High Court, the state’s excise department has issued a notification relaxing its previous order where licenses of over 1,000 such shops were cancelled as they were located on the highways. The Excise Commissioner Arun Kochar told media that with the new ruling of the High Court, the licenses of all those old shops are being renewed.

Member of Hotel and Bar Association Sunil Yadav told media that the previous order had taken away jobs of thousands of people. This new order is a big relief to many such people, he said.

Earlier, after the guidelines of Supreme Court, the state government had added the condition that liquor shops even inside towns on the state and national highways will be closed. This decision was challenged in the High Court.
