The kissing contest, organised as part of the Dumaria Mela at Dumaria village in Pakur district in Jharkhand, landed two Jharkhand Mukti morcha (JMM) MLAs in trouble as the BJP demanded that these two be suspended from the state assembly.
JMM MLA Simon Marandi, who was present at the event, had said this was an initiative to check growing cases of divorces among couples in the tribal community and strengthen their relationship.
Another JMM MLA Stephen Marandi too was present at the event.
Demanding the ouster of these two MLAs from the state assembly, BJP's Jharkhand unit vice president Hemlal Murmu said the duo have insulted "woman power," according to media reports.
Murmu has also asked the two MLAs to apologise to the village heads.
He said Santhal Pargana, which is the constituency of Simon Marandi, boys and girl do not even shake hands.
A video of the "kissing competition" last night during the fair in Jhumaria village in Santhal Pargana, around 400km from the state capital, went viral on social media.
In the video tribal couples are seen locked in a kiss while the crowd cheered.
