Former Kerala police chief Loknath Behera has rubbished media reports which accused him of favoring a particular brand of paint by prescribing it to be used in all police state.

Behera, who took charge as the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau director after T.P. Senkumar returned as police chief, denied issuing an order in this regard.

It was in 2015, during Senkumar's earlier tenure as the police chief, that a decision was taken to paint all police stations in one colour, Behera said in an explanation to Subrato Biswas, additional chief secretary (home)

He was responding to an enquiry ordered by Senkumar into the alleged controversial order.

The Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation was assigned to carry out the project which was to be implemented using the financial aid from the central government.

He said it was the corporation that picked olive brown as the colour to be used.

"The pilot project was implemented in Peroorkada police station and the then police headquarters ADGP, Anilkanth, was satisfied with it. Only after this, I issued an order to all district police chiefs asking them to paint all stations afresh. Other reports are baseless," he said.

Earlier, reports had said Behera wanted all police stations in the state painted in brown and that too with the product of a particular company. Senkumar ordered a probe into the alleged order soon after he took charge as the police chief with the help of a Supreme Court verdict.
