Kerala Assembly witnessed the low ebb of diction on Wednesday when a first-time member called solar scam case accused Saritha S. Nair a prostitute. What even more shocking was none of the members-neither in the opposition nor in the ruling front-found nothing coarse in it and gave it a pass.
According to a report in the New Indian Express, CPI-M Independent MLA P.V. Anwar representing Nilambur constituency in Malappuram district used the word “abhisarika” to describe Saritha during his maiden speech in the House.
The report adds that though several senior members including ministers and former ministers were present in the Assembly, none of them asked for the remarks to be expunged from records of the House. Ironically, the session was being chaired by a woman [B.S. Bijimol].
Saritha, along with her accomplice Biju Radhakrishnan, is accused of duping several people to the tune of crores of rupees by offering solar panel solutions. The case rocked the entire state after she alleged that several Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, were involved in the scam. She had even accused a few leaders of sexually exploiting her.
