DELHI BYPOLL

Kejriwal accused of spending hundreds of crores of public money for AAP campaign

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has wasted hundreds of crores of the tax payers money not only on his advertisements at home in Delhi, but also in the Aam Aadmi Party's electioneering in Punjab,  allege the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal combine, and the Congress. Even as the three-sided contest among these parties is over in Punjab, it is continuing in the national capital .

Byelection to the  Sikh dominated Rajouri Gardens assembly seat in the Delhi capital territory, slated for April 9, seems set to sizzle.

The seat fell vacant after Aam Aadmi Party leader Jarnail Singh resigned to take on former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal in Lambi in the state assembly election.

Thrice represented by Congress leader Ajay Maken, it is a seat the Congress hopes to wrest this time. Though a win or lose  will not make a difference to the Arvind Kejriwal government, the contest is prestigious given it comes soon after the AAP fell far short of its expectations in Punjab.

Punjab chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh came campaigning for the party candidate  Meenakshi Chandeli, a Councillor of the Khyala municipal ward in South Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Thursday, and is expected to make another visit.

Jarnail Singh who came a third in Lambi, has not been given the party ticket to make a come back bid. So far, he has not campaigned in the constituency either. The AAP has fielded Harjeet Singh, who began his public life as a volunteer with Anna Hazare in 2012.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who fought for the Rajouri Garden on the Shiromani Akali Dal ticket two years ago, will now contest on the BJP ticket. Local BJP leaders as well as SAD president Sukhbir Badal will campaign for him, according to party sources.
