Can you generate 2000MW of power without acquiring a single acre of land? Karnataka’s initiative to establish the world’s largest solar park in Pavagada, hopes to achieve this.
Karnataka Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar said, "The land for the solar park has been taken on lease from willing farmers." He was speaking at a plenary session on ‘Power distribution transformation through enhanced private sector participation and smart grid technology', organised by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, at Delhi.
The minister urged industry leaders to continue their cooperation to make the power sector efficient and financially viable. He said that he hoped to give impetus to autonomous regulation with the separation of policy regulation and operational aspects, rationalising tariff and lowering the cross-subsidisation levels, creating competition in the industry, and ensuring supply of electricity to all and, most importantly, to protect consumer needs.
He called upon the industry to market India as an ideal investment destination to generate local employment and boost the manufacturing sector, too.
