Kannur violence: Political parties engage in blame game

Even as the ground is being set for 'peace talks' in the Kannur district of Kerala, known for political killings, the national leadership of two parties behind the murders – BJP and CPI(M) - are busy issuing statements against each other.

The CPM, on Tuesday, countered the RSS resolution which had sought centre's intervention to end Kannur violence by saying that the RSS was fabricating charges against the CPI(M).

The RSS had passed a resolution seeking centre's intervention in its recently concluded national executive meeting held at Hyderabad. It had blamed the CPM for initiating violence and noted that the party did not spare even the CPI, its ally.

"The just-concluded akhil bharatiya karyakari mandal meeting of the RSS in Hyderabad, Telangana, has repeated its fabricated charge against the CPI(M) and its 'so-called' violence against the RSS cadres in Kerala. The truth is the other way around,'' the CPM said in a statement issued in Delhi.

According to CPM, it was RSS that started the current spree of violence on the very day that the assembly elections were announced.

"The RSS seeks to intensify communal polarization in the predominantly muslim areas of northern Kerala through such politics of violence and terror. In addition, they seek to increase their following amongst the people. These are standard RSS tactics of seeking to expand its influence,'' the CPM alleged on Tuesday.

According to CPM, the RSS/BJP has always used the Goebbelsian tactics of repeating a lie a hundred times and peddling it as the truth. While it is clear that the RSS was mounting large scale attacks against CPI(M) cadres all over Kerala, it is fallaciously seeking to portray itself as the victim, the CPM blamed.

It also alleged that the RSS is yet to respond to peace talks being initiated by the Kerala government.
