Amidst renewed tussle between the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, the LG on Saturday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh at latter's residence where the issue of the 400 files of Delhi government allegedly showing ''grave misdemeanour'' came up for discussion. The ongoing investigation into these files has become the latest flashpoint between the LG and the Delhi government with the latter questioning the authority of the LG in constituting a probe panel.

The Delhi government on Saturday morning advised the LG to dissolve the Shunglu committee, which is examining 400 files on the decisions taken during the AAP regime, but the LG has given an extension to the committee to complete its probe. Jung is learnt to be of the view that a CBI inquiry be launched into some of these cases where the “irregularities” and “infirmities” in the decisions taken by the government are grave in nature.

The meeting at Singh's residence was attended by Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and other officials.

Jung had formed a three member committee chaired by former CAG V.K. Shunglu on August 30 to examine the files where certain decisions taken by the AAP government were allegedly not in conformity with the constitutional provisions. The other members of the panel are former chief election commissioner N. Gopalaswami and former chief vigilance commissioner Pradeep Kumar.

The MHA is expected to examine the issue even as the tussle over the files is likely to get harsher in the coming days. The AAP government has already refuted the allegations and accused the LG of acting at the behest of the Centre to discredit the Kejriwal government.
