Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who is undergoing treatment, is making gradual progress and requires longer stay in the hospital, says Apollo in its latest detailed medical bulletin.

For the first time, Apollo hospital issued a detailed press statement on the health condition of Jayalalithaa on Thursday and said the chief minister required a longer stay in the hospital. The chief minister was making a gradual progress, it said. "Based on the deliberations and clinical examination, the expert group of doctors from Apollo Hospitals have drawn up a detailed medical management plan keeping in view Honourable Chief Minister's known history of diabetes, and winter bronchitis in inclement weather. The present treatment regimen includes continued Respiratory support, nebulisation, drugs to decongest the lungs, antibiotics, nutrition, general nursing care and supportive therapy,” the statement said.

The medical bulletin said the chief minister required a longer stay in the hospital as the “consensus of opinion of all the experts is that the line of treatment given to the chief minister should be continued.”

The statement also said that the expert team of doctors from the AIIMS also examined the chief miniter and that Dr Richard from the UK who visited her on September 30, examined and assessed her health again on Thursday. The team of doctors from the AIIMS would be available till October 7, according to the bulletin.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to the Apollo hospital on Greams road in central Chennai on September 22. The first press statement from the hospital, released on September 23, said the chief minister was admitted for fever and dehydration and was having normal diet.

However, secrecy maintained about her illness and the treatment sparked off rumours which flew fast and thick after the visit of Dr Richard Baele from the UK, though the hospital issued press statements at regular intervals.
