With Tamil Nadu chief minister 'interacting' and her health condition 'gradually improving', Amma loyalists offer gold and silver to Chamundeshwari temple

Praying for the speedy recovery of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jayaram, her loyalists have offered gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 1.61 crore to the Ganesha and Hanuman idols at the Chamundeshwari temple atop the Chamundi hills in Mysuru. Chamundeshwari temple is one of Jayalalithaa's favourite temples, and having been born in Mysuru, Chamundi is said to be her family deity.

According to temple sources, 1689 grams of gold and 4852 grams of silver have been donated to the Ganesha idol by Sri Jaya Publications in Chennai. The gold and silver for Ganesha, sources say, were worth Rs 42.29 lakh. For the Hanuman idol, 4710 grams of gold and 14,980 grams of silver worth Rs 1.18 crore were donated by the Kodanad Estate. The donations have been registered in the temple registry. Special pujas were also performed to the deities of Ganesha and Hanuman, at the main entrance of the Chamundi temple.

Jayalalithaa had earlier visited the temple during special occasions and offered donations. Her last visit was reportedly in 2011, when she turned 63. Meanwhile mass prayers and special pujas are being held in almost every temple across Tamil Nadu. It has been a month since Jayalalithaa has been admitted to the Apollo hospitals in Chennai.
