Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's condition continues to be critical after suffering a cardiac arrest and is being treated by a team of specialists at Apollo Hospitals where she has been admitted since late September.

Apollo Hospitals joint managing director Sangita Reddy tweeted on Monday that the doctors are "closely monitoring Hon'ble CM's condition and they are trying their very best".

Chief operating officer and head of transformation of Apollo Hospital Subbaiah Viswanathan, in a statement released on Sunday evening had said the chief minister is " being treated and monitored by a team of experts, including cardiologists, pulmonologist and critical care specialists".

After the statement from the hospital, Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and enquired about Jayalalithaa's health.

Rao, who is also Governor of Maharashtra, rushed to Chennai from Mumbai and went to the hospital. He, however, has not released any statement after his visit.

Ministers and top police officials also rushed to the hospital and held informal consultations on the situation.

The hospital, in a tweet, had also revealed that ""Dr Richard Beale from London has also been consulted and he has concurred with the line of treatment by our cardiologists & pulmonologists".

Security has been beefed up outside the hospital and according to media reports, security was being stepped up across the state. Vehicular movement has been restricted around the hospital area.

There is also heavy deployment of police outside the residence of the chief minister.

In a communication to ADGPs of Enforcement, CB-CID, Economic Offences Wing and Crime wings, the DGP's office asked them to "mobilise all the officers in the rank of SPs and police personnel of other ranks of Enforcement, CBCID, EOW and Crime completely and they should report" to SPs and Commissioners of Police at 7 am.

A large number of AIADMK supporters thronged the hospital soon after the news about her cardiac arrest. “Amma is our Rani of Jhansi, and has achieved what others cannot. All praying for her speedy recovery,” Vasuki, one of the supporters of the chief minister said.
