"BSF constable Tej Bahadur's case is primarily personal in nature"

As border security forces continue to share their angst on social media, the union home ministry sent its report to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) after the latter stepped in on Thursday. The MHA, which based its report on inputs from the border guarding force BSF, said that there was 'no widespread violation' of the standards set for the jawans' rations and that the case of BSF Constable Tej Bahadur was primarily personal in nature.

The report maintained that both quality and quantity were satisfactory, as per the BSF's own inquiry report. Consequently, there is no widespread resentment in the forces over the standard of the food supplied to them.

The ministry and the BSF, however, is taking a number of steps to ensure that the government facilities reached the border forces and personal supervision was conducted by the forces as well as the ministry to ensure the same.

A move is already afoot to check the dietary requirements of the jawans posted in forward areas. While the MHA maintains that Bahadur Singh's complaint was primarily personal in the nature, it adds that his service record was uninspiring and personal conduct unsatisfactory .

The PMO, on Thursday, requested the MHA for a report and wanted to be apprised about facts of the case and the roadblocks that prevented the facilities from reaching the jawans, especially those posted in the forward areas.

Singh had posted a video on social media complaining about the pathetic food supplied to the jawans manning the borders, which was followed by another video, days later, by a CRPF jawan alleging discrimination and lack of facilities.
